XTERRA Trail Run World Championship Heads to Gozo, Malta

XTERRA 2026 Trail Run World Championship heads to Gozo, Malta, bringing the world’s top trail runners to the Mediterranean for a festival of endurance, culture, and stunning island terrain.

The XTERRA Trail Run World Championship will take place 9 May 2026, marking the first time the event visits Malta’s smaller sister island, Gozo. Known for its rugged coastline, limestone cliffs, and centuries-old footpaths, Gozo offers a dramatic setting for the sport’s most adventurous athletes.

Next years event will feature a 42 km marathon, 21 km half marathon, and 10 km discovery run, along with kids’ races and a weekend of cultural activities that blend competition with local hospitality.

The organisers chose Gozo for its unique geography and community spirit, highlighting the island’s commitment to sustainable tourism and outdoor sport. The event will showcase the best of Mediterranean trail running — steep climbs, sea views, and ancient paths linking villages and bays.
